Project Manager:Facility
Mariana grew up in Namaqualand, which is a dry arid region far north of Cape Town toward Namibia, and attended boarding school in Wellington (just outside Cape Town). She went on to study civil engineering at the University of Stellenbosch. Starting her working career in Pretoria with the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, she worked as a design engineer in the division dealing with earth and rockfill dams.
An opportunity arose to work on the construction site of a large dam in the Northern Province of South Africa (the Nandoni dam) and Mariana worked on this project as the Engineer's Representative. It was during this time that she also became involved with community liaison, an important aspect of the work as dams impact on rural communities over large areas.
After two years of dam building, she left the Northern Province and moved back to Cape Town to start working as part of the SALT Project Team.
