Mechanical Engineer
Nicholas received a first class honours for his B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town in 1998. He then continued to do his M.Sc by dissertation entitled "An Investigation Into The Fibre Instrument Feed For The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT)", co-supervised by Dr. David Buckley (SAAO), Mr. Brandon Reed (UCT) and Prof. Jasson Gryzagoridis (UCT), graduating in 2001. Research on the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Pupil Simulator, written up for the degree, was done at the Pennsylvania State University under the supervision of Prof. Larry Ramsey and Mr. Leland Engel. He worked at the HET for a period of four months in the latter half of 2000, and again at Penn State for a period of about a year straddling 2001/2002.
He has willingly returned to Cape Town to work with David Buckley on the Fibre Instrument Feed.
