Software Engineer
Roy is a nomad. He grew up in various places in Southern Africa. Not only has he moved around a lot but he has also changed careers a number of times. Having completed a BSc. in Agricultural Engineering he proceeded to wend his way across the world on a bicycle, picking apples and herding cattle on horseback to fund further travels. It was during this time that his passion for sustainability and more specifically renewable energies was born. It was a strawbale house that started it all. Three years later saw him entering the profession for which he was qualified. For various reasons things didn't pan out and he moved on to work with young people at his local church. Bills still have to be paid and after two years he created an opportunity at a local electronics company to learn how to programme in Java. These newly acquired skills eventually led to a 'once-in-a-lifetime' job on the SALT project team.
