Steve Crawford

SALT Science Data Manager

Steve Crawford is original from Philadelphia and grew up in the leafy suburbs of Southern New Jersey, USA.  After obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, Steve moved on to University of Wisconsin in Madison where he obtained his PhD looking at extreme star bursting galaxies in galaxy clusters.  In 2006, he came to Cape Town to work with Darragh O'Donaghue in the instrumentation department at SAAO.  In 2007, he took the position of SALT Science data manager, where his primary duties involve developing the python/PyRAF pipeline for SALT data reduction.

Steve's main research interests are galaxy evolution and observational cosmology.   The majority of his research involves exploring how cluster environments affect the evolution of different types of galaxies.  Other projects include an active interest in instrumentation along with data reduction and analysis methods for astronomy.  For more information, please see his homepage on http://stevecrawford.saao.ac.za/
