Journey time from Cape Town to SAAO Sutherland is 4 hours 30 minutes including one stop. Refreshments will be provided on the coach. Coaches are to depart Cape Town at 05.00 and depart SAAO Sutherland for the return journey from 15.00hrs. We cannot predict exact evening arrival times in Cape Town. Coaches will be clearly marked with a number and you are asked to return on the same coach.

Coaches will depart from Cape Town hotels, a list of these hotels will be published her ONE week before, and from the River Club adjacent to the Cape Town Observatory.

If your hotel accommodation has been booked via our travel agent Gilt Edge you do not need to contact us to book your seat on the coach. You will be automatically included for the coach pick up at your hotel.

If you have made your own accommodation arrangements you need to email us details as soon as possible to enable us to coordinate coach pick ups. If there are less than 6 people at your accommodation you will need to take a taxi or hotel shuttle bus to the River Club adjacent to the Cape Town Observatory and board a coach there. We will advise you if this is necessary. Cars parked at the River Club will be supervised.

Please note that there is NO ACCESS to the SAAO Sutherland site for private vehicles.
Only disabled guests may use private vehicles on site. Please advise us if you require disabled access.

For guests travelling from the Northern Cape parking for private vehicles is available in Sutherland town church ground and a shuttle bus service will be provided between the town and the Observatory. Shuttle service operates between 9.00 and 10.00. Registration and collection of badges from 08:00.
