RSS STRUCTURE

The following illustrates the current concept for the design of the RSS structure, which involves a light-weight, but rigid, space-frame housing both the visible and near-IR beams, both which partially articulate on curved tracks.

 

RSS mechanisms: schematics

Although RSS is still in the design phase, concepts have already evolved for the mechanisms, which will allow motion control of the various components (e.g. grating insertion and rotation, etalon instertion, filter changes, waveplate rotation, slitmask exchange, etc.

The following schematics illustrate these mechanisms.
