In addition to providing world-class astronomical observations, SALT has a strong education and public outreach program, administered through the SALT Collateral Benefits Program of the SAAO (see http://www.saao.ac.za/outreach/scbp/). Each year we reach tens of thousands of the public and an even larger number of learners across the country. SALT also contributes to the well-being of the Sutherland community through the Community Development Centre (see http://commcentre.saao.ac.za) and by providing support to the local schools and medical facility.
